Our nursing staff are made up of LPN’s and RN’s. HEC’s nursing services include medical, psychiatric, and emergency care. They coordinate and schedule regular medical, dental, eye, and other appointments with specialists. Nurses also provide medication administration to the students.
Medical & Emergency Care
Nurses are available on campus 12 hours a day and are available on-call overnight to ensure that all medical needs are met for our students. Our Medical Director is a pediatrician in the local area who provides on site well checkups, sick calls, as well as being available to bring our students to his local office. In the event of emergencies, we have rapid 911 response from our local EMS services.
Psychiatric Care
HEC has a psychiatrist on staff who meets regularly with youth and the treatment team as a part of mental health and medication services. Our nursing department coordinates with our psychiatrist and families regarding any medication treatments. Our nursing department also coordinates any labs or assessments required for specific medications.
Family Involvement
It is very important to HEC that parents are involved in medical decisions concerning their children. Nursing staff contact families for approval when there are any medication changes ordered and address any concerns families have with their child’s physical well being. They can coach parents on how to administer any medications their child is being prescribed and advise of any side effects. They also work with families regarding any changes to their child’s medical needs or medical concerns their child raises.
